Serena Williams made headlines recently after appearing in docuseries about the royal couple, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Her presence and testimony in Harry & Meghan brought a lot more credibility to the Netflix docuseries. And once again, she made it to the news as she spoke her mind about Will Smith, who portrayed her father in the film King Richard.
The infamous Slapgate incident from the 94th Academy Awards will complete its one-year anniversary soon. In the past year, we have heard a lot of statements from various celebrities and experts about this incident. Even the Men In Black actor apologized to Chris Rock several times publically. However, Serena Williams has given the whole incident a new turn as she broke the silence over it after about a year.

What did Serena Williams say about Will Smith?
Serena gave an interview to CBS Mornings where she talked about what happened on the stage of the Academy Awards. It was a big day for both Serena and Smith as he won the Oscar for being the best actor in a lead role in the film and the film was about the tennis player and her father.
The 41-year-old player said in the interview that she thought that the movie was absolutely incredible. However, she felt bad for the filmmaker Questlove, who received the award right after the slap happened. The whole incident overshadowed his victory. Questlove got the award for Best Documentary Feature for his film Summer of Soul last year.
However, Serena Williams subsequently stated that because she has experienced extreme pressure, she is aware of how mistakes may be made by others. She also thinks that a misstep does not mean the end of everything. “We’re all imperfect and we’re all human, and let’s just be kind to each other. And I think that’s often forgotten a lot,” the tennis legend added.

Despite the whole Slapgate incident, the credibility of Will Smith as an extremely talented actor can not be defied. After all, he won an Oscar that night. However, the slap came with a price as it cost him a ban for the next 10 years from the world’s biggest award show.
