Was Jason Bateman Axed From His Childhood Show to Steal the Spotlight From Lead Stars?
Award-winning actor Jason Bateman has been in the industry for four decades. Considering that the actor is now in his 50s that would mean, he has been at it since he was just ten years old. His first steps into the acting industry were with Little House on the Prairie.
Viewers loved seeing the boy from the cereal commercial in a tv show. And soon after came his role in the iconic television Silver Spoons. Why was Jason Bateman kicked out of Silver Spoons?
Networth in millions, being voted as the Sexiest man alive, an Emmy and Screen Actors Guild award chilling in his closet, there is a lot that makes Jason Bateman unrelatable to the ordinary man. But being axed off a television show with iconic stars for being too popular definitely takes home the cake. Yes, we are talking about the time Jason Bateman was removed from the iconic sitcom Silver Spoons.
The drama was centered around Edward Stratton lll and his son with Ricky Schroder as the star of the show. Bateman joined the show in 1982 and played the role of Derek Taylor. Furthermore, his character was best friends with Ricky Shroder and a supposed bad influence. Considering how Bateman is a pro at delivering punch lines even now, he had the audience laughing even back then.

His character was loved by the audience. More so, than Ricky Schroder. And a supporting character being the center of attention definitely troubled the creators. Furthermore, Silver Spoons was created by Martin Cohan, Howard Leeds, and Ben Starr. They finally decided to remove Jason Bateman from the show after two seasons.
However, it did not really faze the Ozark actor because the producers promised him another show. And this one would have him as the center of the plot so that being too popular won’t be a problem. Just as promised Jason Bateman was cast as Matthew Burton in 1984 in a new sitcom Its Your Move.
