When we all saw the first episode of Virgin River, we expected a quiet little show about the peace of small towns. Who is the father of Mel’s child?

Jack and Mel have had a very rocky relationship right from the very beginning of Virgin River. But, right when Jack was sure he was ready to commit to Mel and even propose to her, Mel reveals that she is pregnant. And she isn’t sure if the child is Jack’s. Jack was the only one not impressed with the timing of this revelation. Viewers aren’t fans of it either, as the show ended with a massive cliffhanger back in the summer of 2021. Now that Netflix has announced the release date of Virgin River season 4, it offers little respite.

However, the question still stands. Who is the father of Mel’s child? The two possibilities are Jack, Mel’s current love interest, and the show’s protagonist, or Mark, Mel’s deceased husband. In an interview with US Weekly, showrunner Sue Tenney revealed that she plans on revealing this secret at the very end of season 4. She said that it is “something that we won’t answer until we get to the end of — if we get — a season 4”
