Period dramas on Netflix have grown over the years, and why should not they? Some of the best-performing movies/series on Netflix are from the period drama genre. However, except for Vikings few series/movies have covered Norse mythology or the Vikings era extensively. Thus, Netflix has brought Vikings: Valhalla to the fans, and its teaser looks promising.

Movies/series from the period drama genre give a new life to the infamous stories from the past. Netflix had announced the release date of the series back in November 2021. Since then, fans have craved for a look at the Vikings in battle. Finally, the streaming giant has granted fans’ wishes, so let us look at how bloody things get.

Vikings: Valhalla teaser is not for the faint-hearted

The 70-second long teaser focuses on the battle between Christians and Pagans. Of course, we will hear the story from the Vikings’ perspective, but the Christians will play a significant role in the series. However, the teaser hasn’t provided us with another synopsis like the one with the first look pictures. Thus, it might confuse new viewers, as it does not have enough context.

The Christians and Pagans are at war because of the St. Brice’s Day Massacre. King Ethelred II of England faces an attack from the Vikings, as his troops committed genocidal acts against Danes. Thus, we see Harald Sigurdsson boosting the morals of the Vikings. Harald is a part of the trio comprising famed explorer Leif Eriksson and his sister Freydis Eriksdotter, and the series will primarily focus on them.

What are the creator’s views on the series?

Jeb Stuart, who has previously worked as a writer on Die Hard and The Fugitive, has created the spinoff series. But the creator hasn’t simply jumped into the story. “I did a lot of research,” Jeb explained. “I got my Viking history up to the point where I could be stupid.” The creator also confirmed the wrap of season 2 of the series.

From the teaser, one can figure out that the series will be fast-paced, and fans will not get enough time to dwell on the drama. Thus, Jeb has made his expectations clear to the EW: “I come from the action feature world where things are moving quickly. I’m not going to give you 30 seconds to say, ‘Hmm, wonder what he meant by that strange phrase?’ You gotta keep up. You gotta move.”
