Spinoff series’ are always a gamble, but Netflix seems to be willing to take them. The streaming giant has got a taste for spinoffs after the success of “Army of The Thieves“. Thus, fans of “Vikings”, the hit historical drama, have something to cheer for as Netflix has tweeted the release date of Vikings: Valhalla, a spinoff series of Vikings.
Earlier, Netflix had been teasing the fans with no official news about the spinoff series. However, now, fans have got the release date and also photos of the cast to bury their fears.
What to expect from Vikings: Valhalla?
Although the show is a fictional recreation of the events of the past, it has three widely renowned Vikings at the center. The spinoff series takes place 100 years after the events of the Vikings. It focuses on popular vikings, namely Leif Eriksson, Herald Sigurdsson, and Freydis Eriksdotter.
Leif Eriksson was a fabled explorer from Iceland, with some believing he discovered North America before Christopher Columbus. Freydis, sister of Leif, was involved in his exploration trips spreading the Norse religion. Herald Sigurdsson was the King of Norway from 1046 to 1066.
Vikings: Valhalla cast and camera crew
Sam Corlett, Frida Gustavsson, and Leo Suter are in the lead roles of Leif, Freydis, and Herald, respectively. Bradley Freegard, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, David Oakes, Laura Berlin, and Caroline Henderson also star in the spinoff series.
The series will not be completely rid of Vikings’ presence as creators Michael Hirst and Jeb Stuart will return as executive producers. Jeb Stuart will also act as the showrunner. Stephen St. Leger, who has directed for Vikings, will also return along with Hannah Quinn, and BAFTA-winner Niels Arden Oplev.
