It is award season and we can not help significant flashbacks. With time flying by so quickly, the world is now moving at a faster pace. People need new content and jokes to exchange pleasantries since a lot of them have moved on since the year 2023. Hence, it is time for the world to move on from Will Smith and Chris Rock’s Slapgate incident from the Oscars last year. Nevertheless, good or bad, some remain etched in our memories.

Speaking of which, it seems like some people, especially Hollywood’s award-function writers, can not get over the Slapgate. That is right, once again, in the year 2023, the joke was repeated on the platform of the Golden Globes awards. The question is, who did it and why?

Why were Will Smith and Slapgate mentioned at the Golden Globes?

The host of this year’s Golden Globes Awards was American comedian Jerrod Carmichael. Apparently, the 35-year-old comedian is very much in love with the roasts. Just like his stand-ups, the opening line of the show began with a roast by Carmichael.

According to ANI, his opening line of the show was, “I will tell you why I am here. I am here ’cause I am Black.” But halfway through the show, he said the ineffable, aka the Slapgate incident. According to Yahoo! life, mentioning Will Smith, he said that the Rock Hudson Award for the best portrayal of masculinity on television should go to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and that was it.

Although he did not mention Chris Rock or Slapgate, it was pretty evident from what he said. However, he did not receive a huge round of applause or a crowd guffawing at his joke, which means one thing is clear: people are done with the Slapgate jokes.

Fans feel what Will Smith did was wrong, but he has apologized enough for it. Although his apology does not justify what he did, that does not mean that the jokes will be hilarious for eternity, or so says Twitter. Along with the Award guests, the netizens on the bird app are also ridiculed by the constant throwback at the infamous incident.

The reason behind Smith slapping Chris Rock was the unsavory comment that he made for Jada Pinkett Smith which was intended as a joke. Let’s hope Jerrod Carmichael stops making jokes about the incident after this one misfired.
