There have always been great Netflix couples like Elle and Noah from The Kissing Booth or Mel and Jack from Virgin River. However, not all couples have a happy ending. Thus, Netflix has a fair share of these too.

Hannah and Owen

The first couple is from “The Haunting of Bly Manor“, Hannah Grose (T’Nia Miller) and Owen Sharma (Rahul Kohli). This Netflix couple tops the list because what is sadder than finding out you are dead and you can neither be with the man you loved nor confess to him.

The audience couldn’t comprehend what was going on when the 5th episode, “The Altar of the Dead” was released. Hannah, jumping from some of her worst memories to her first time meeting Owen, was so beautiful, yet so sad.

Dave and Klaus

We move on to Klaus Hargreeves (Robert Sheehan) and Dave Katz (Dante Albidone) from “The Umbrella Academy”. When Klaus served in the Vietnam war, he connected with Dave right after their first conversation on the bus.

Klaus was so distraught when Dave died in the war he literally tried to alter the timeline. Klaus’ desperation ended up only hurrying the inevitable. While Dave did not enroll in the army, he went to the marines much earlier.

Hopper and Joyce

“Stranger Things” has got several couples, but the one that stands out is that of Jim Hopper (David Harbour) and Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder). We first see Joyce and Hopper share screen when Joyce reports to Hopper about Will going missing.

Hopper and Joyce have their share of arguments, but they also have their moments. In the last episode of 3rd season, Hopper sacrificed himself once the laser machine went berserk, and in his ultimate moments, he could only give a tearful nod to Joyce.

Riley and Erin

Our last tragic Netflix couple is also from a Mike Flanagan-directed horror series called “Midnight Mass”. Riley Flynn (Zach Gilford) and Erin Greene (Kate Siegel) are high school lovers who have reconnected after a long time. Riley caused a drunk driving accident that killed a young girl and returned to Crockett Island after serving time in prison.

Father Paul had turned Riley into a vampire-like creature, and Riley wanted to warn Erin to make her leave Crockett Island. Riley knew Erin wouldn’t believe him until she saw it, so he turned into ashes right in front of her. Riley’s last words were, “I love you.”

If this list didn’t bring a tear to your eyes, congratulations, you are immune to emotions.
