Netflix is expanding The Witcher universe with a live-action spinoff centered around the infamous squad of rebels known as The Rats. The Witcher’s third season released its second volume in July this year and it marked the end of Henry Cavill’s role in the series. Ciri met a strange gang of mischiefs called The Rats in the last episode. It highlighted the beginning of a dark turn in her story. The Rats made a great first impression. It made fans wonder about their identity and the reasons behind their chosen name.

The Witcher spin-off, Riff-Raff will focus on a band of teenage outlaws from Geso. They suffered because of Nilfgaard’s invasion of the continent, causing them to lose empathy due to their tragic experiences. While it is still unclear whether Freya Allan will appear in the spin-off or not, the introduction of three new characters has been confirmed.

In the books, Giselher (Ben Radcliffe) was the leader of The Rats and the members included Iskra (Aggy K. Adams), Kayleigh (Fabian McCallum), Reef (Juliette Alexandra), Mistle (Christelle Elwin), and Asse (Connor Crawford). The seventh member was Ciri, who had taken the name Falka. As confirmed by Redanian Intelligence, the cast has recently grown with the addition of three newcomers: Bianca Simone as Sonora, Litha Bam as Miss Skret, and Aubrey Shelton as Barker.

Whether Geralt of Rivia will feature in the prequel remains unknown because it mostly deals with events prior to The Witcher. The series will center on the six rats before they met Ciri. They will be seen plotting and fighting a terrible criminal syndicate in their kingdom. And Cavill’s character Geralt does not belong here.

Mistle was introduced to viewers in Season 3, Episode 3, when she took Ciri’s money and then gave her a dagger to protect herself against a young monster. Mistle cared about Ciri as a person and believed in her combat abilities, unlike others who were just concerned with Ciri’s elder blood. In the books, their relationship became romantic for a short time before Ciri decided to leave the Rats gang to reclaim her throne in Cintra.

Ciri made several terrible decisions in the books while in a relationship with Mistle. Hence, a similar dynamic may play out in the show. Because Ciri was not a rebel like Falka or a criminal like Mistle, their relationship was likely to face difficulties.
