Netflix enjoys adapting video games. The entertainment provider has gone all out to bring video game storylines on its platform, from Arcane to The Witcher. It has now shown its take on Resident Evil. Netflix is preparing to premiere its live-action Resident Evil series this summer. And the first official teaser videos for the project were revealed today. Resident Evil has been a very successful game and movie franchise. With its own cult following.

That’s why when Netflix announced they would have a fresh take on the game, fans were a little apprehensive. However, the streaming giant has since reassured the hardcore fans of the game that there isn’t any reason to worry.

Resident Evil will have no links to the previous films, according to showrunner and executive producer Andrew Dabb. Although the games are regarded canon for the franchise. Recently Dabb explained how everything that transpired in the games is replicated in the series’ setting.

Dabb said that the games are a huge part of the show, no matter how the previous movies turned out. He said, “The games are our backstory. Everything that happened in the games exists in this world.”

Dabb further explains that even though fans will not be able to see the game’s inspiration in the show from the beginning. But they will surely see it moving forward as the show develops. He says that the main objective they have with the show is to create a journey for the fans to embark on.

“For us, it was more important, like, let’s take you on this journey. And then, as the journey goes on and on, we will touch on different quarters and aspects of the mythology,” says Dabb while explaining the nature of the new show.

Because so little is known about the franchise at the moment, that the games are canon will surely delight even the most ardent Resident Evil fan. The franchise recently experienced a setback with the release of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, which bombed both critically and commercially, so fans are desperate for a victory.

If all goes well, the series may be a great smash for Netflix, and after seeing the teaser, we are excited to see what happens next.
