Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Netflix launched a double whammy on the royal family of Britain. In November, the American streaming giant released the fifth season of the controversial show The Crown. The episodes were harmful to the image of the new monarch King Charles III as they discussed at length about his divorce from the late Princess Diana. The show also highlighted the former Princess of Wales’ bombshell interview with the BBC. A month after the release of The Crown season five, Netflix came up with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s explosive docuseries.

The show formed a part of Sussexes’ $100 million deal with the streamer. The royal couple went all out against their subjects in the United Kingdom. They removed curtains from the plotting that forced them to step back as working royals. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s controversial claims received a mixed response as Britishers questioned the legitimacy of the accusations. However, despite facing criticism, Harry & Meghan managed to beat the hit show The Crown in terms of viewership.

Harry & Meghan records biggest documentary debut ever

Harry & Meghan has broken a series of records when it comes to viewership. The first volume of the show was released on December 08 and it fetched over 2.4 million views. This is a lot more than what The Crown season five recorded when it premiered on November 08. The television show was successful in attracting only 1.1 million people.

Notably, the views can be a lot higher as the rating body Barb counts only the watchers who stream the show on television sets. They do not take into account the laptop or phone users. Meanwhile, recently Netflix claimed that Harry & Meghan had the best documentary debut ever. As per the streamer, the show has recorded over 175 million watch hours.

Moreover, The Crown has been watched by 73 million viewers since its debut in 2016. As per the Express, the Duke and Duchess’ documentary took over the record within the first week as it grabbed 81 million users. Notably, both shows are doing extremely well as they are in the top ten in the United States and the United Kingdom.
