Hollywood is producing a plethora of reboots, sequels, and remakes of popular old movies. One of the recent big fish in this ocean is Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which is set to premiere on Netflix on 18th February 2022. The viewers could catch a glimpse of the new movie in December when the first trailer of the movie was released. Significantly, this movie will be the direct sequel to the hit original Texas Chainsaw Massacre by Tobe Hooper in 1974. Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Is it going to differ from the other movies of the franchise?

After the unexpected success of Tobe Hooper’s unnerving 1974 classic, Texas Chainsaw Massacre. The villain, Leatherface, popped up in a lot of movies throughout the years. However, most of the sequels just felt like remakes and failed to capture the audience’s attention. Earlier, it was revealed that the new movie won’t be based on the premise of the seven films of the franchise. Significantly, it would pay tribute to the original film.

Fede Alvarez is the writer of the upcoming movie. His previous works include directing the infamous reboot of Evil Dead in 2013. Alvarez talked about the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“I think the first movie really hit a nerve when portraying that culture clash between the countryside and the city. Back in the ’70s, the hippies were representing the youth of the city. This time, they’re more like millennial hipsters from Austin who are very entrepreneurial and have a dream of getting away from the city and back to the countryside. They’re trying to gentrify small-town America — and let’s just say they encounter some pushback,” said the 43-year-old.

He further added, “Our take on it was this guy probably disappeared after everything he’s done. You know, how do you catch a guy who has a mask? Once he removes the mask and runs away, it’s very easy for him to hide somewhere. This story will pick it up many, many years after the original story. He’s been in hiding for a long, long time, trying to be a good person. These people arriving in this town are going to awaken the giant.”

The new trailer release

Earlier this week, NetflixGeeked shared the new poster of the film on Instagram accompanied with a terrifying caption, “This February, the face of madness returns.” Furthermore, they added the exciting news of a new trailer coming on Monday, 31st January 2022. Check out the post:

No additional information regarding what the new trailer might contain has been shared. Significantly, the new poster portrays an eerie look at Leatherface standing under the sun in a field of dead sunflowers.

Returning cast from the original hit

To add more positives to the table, the new movie will contain two of the original casts. The viewers will witness the older version of the lone survivor of the original film, Sally Hardesty, played by Olwen Fouere. Furthermore, the opening narrator of the original film, John Larroquette, will return to lend his voice.

John’s narration was one of the key moments of the original film. As the film starts, the story is branded as a true crime. However, it was just loosely based on the crimes of Ed Gein.

In an interview with Variety, the movie’s director, David Blue Garcia, shares the importance of Larroquette’s casting. Garcia explained, “It felt important to honor the original ‘TCM’ at every opportunity”.- “John’s voice is iconic in the original opening and we thought it would help set the perfect tone in our own intro. It’s also a subtle way of letting the fans know they’re in good hands.”
