Stephen Curry Is Producing a Young Adult Sports Novel Adaption for Netflix? Here’s What We Know

Book-to-movie adaptations are the declared safe haven for filmmakers. Book adaptations especially rope in fans who have already had a good experience with the book and want to see their favorite characters come to life. Some of the most iconic movies that created havoc at the box office such as Gone Girl, The Devil Wears Prada, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and of course  Harry Potter were adapted from books. Given the political situation all around the world today, a book that has managed to strike a chord with the young adult audience is Black Brother, Black Brother.

Written by Jewell Parker Rhodes who apart from the work in question is also famous for Ghost Boys made her a Walter Award-winning author, Black Brother, Black Brother is all set to get a new life. And who better to produce a movie about a colored boy trying to make it in sports than Stephen Curry?

What is Black Brother, Black Brother about?

Jewell Parker Rhodes’ enigmatic book came into the world in March of 2020 just a few months before the Black Lives Matter moment would gain unprecedented momentum all around the world. Furthermore, the young adult novel was among Curry’s Underrated Book Club which as the name suggest focuses on underrated books. The young adult novel is a tale built around 12-year-old Donte who is the Black Brother of light-skinned, Trey.

Donte’s struggle with his identity and his sheer grit to prove himself to a world brimming with racism forms the premise of the book. Stephen Curry who won an Oscar as an executive producer, earlier this year will be producing the movie along with Netflix. The NBA champion co-owns Unanimous Media with Erik Peyton and the two of them released a joint statement on the partnership.

The production announcement came in September of 2021, and there have been no updates yet. While you wait on more updates about this exciting Stephen Curry project, you can watch an incredibly gripping documentary titled When They See Us on Netflix.
