Squid Game Season 2 Release Date, Cast, and Other Updates – How Can the Show Continue?

With the massive success that Squid Game has seen, fans expected the series to have a second season. The director, creator, and writer of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, mentioned in an interview that there are many “loose ends” that he would like to explore in a second season if there is to be one. Moreover, the ending of the show has clearly hinted towards a sequel.

Release date and cast of Squid Game Season 2

Among the list of people that won’t be returning are the characters of Sae-byok, Sang-woo, Il-nam, Ali, and almost all others who died. This also means that there will be newer characters to replace them. Il-nam, for example, ran the games. Now that he died in a way that he most probably won’t come back, someone new will have to run the next games.

While Netflix hasn’t revealed a release date, Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed that there will be a Squid Game season 2.

 

“So there’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently. But I do think it’s too early to say when and how that’s going to happen. So I will promise you this…(in English) Gi-Hun will come back, and he will do something for the world.”

Assumed plot and unanswered questions

Squid Game had many plotlines that ended with cliffhangers. The most popular ones are that of detective Hwang Jun-ho and Mi-nyeo, known as the “annoying lady”. Jun-ho had a long and elaborate venture on the island that ended in vain when his brother shot him. But did he die? On the other hand, there’s Mi-nyeo who wants to leave, pleading that she has a baby to take care of. Was it all a lie? In either case, why did she return?

There’s also the fan-favorite Kang Sae-byok. How did she end up with the bully gangster? And finally, how did she betray him? Fans of the Netflix Original are also expecting more into the back story of Jun-ho and his brother, the Frontman’s past. How did they both end up in two so splendidly different situations?

Hwang Dong-hyuk has talked about the many storylines he wants to explore in the second season before even confirming a second season. The director has worked on the series for more than a decade, a fact that ensures fans that the second season will be just as amazing as the first one.
