It might surprise you to know but before the Will Smith-Chris Rock slap gate, Kimmel had one of the most memorable moments at the Oscars. Interestingly, back in 2017, Kimmel was hosting the Oscars when the speakers announced La La Land as the best picture. Soon after the cast and crew stepped up to collect the award, the organizers revealed that Moonlight had actually won.
Kimmel gracefully handled the mix-up with humor and compassion, which explains why he appreciated Chris Rock for his reaction to the slapgate. Producers of La La Land were no less either, taking things in stride and rushing to correct things once the mistake was identified.
2) When Jimmy Kimmel mocked Timothée Chalamet
Jimmy Kimmel left no stones unturned to make sure everyone had a good laugh. Back in 2018, the TV show host took a jibe at the Call Me By Your Name star. The actor had won a nomination for the best actor for his performance in Call Me By Your Name. Kimmel hilariously revealed, “Timothée is missing Paw Patrol to be here tonight.” Meanwhile, Chalamet seemed to be in good spirits as he laughed along.
3) Taking digs at various celebrities with his mean tweets
Jimmy Kimmel did not technically tweet against the Hollywood A-listers. However, the host collected a variety of mean tweets from around the internet. And as strange as it sound, Kimmel invited a number of celebrities including Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone on his show as he made them read out the tweets. These were then shared during the Academy Awards 2018.
4) The popular Jimmy Kimmel-Matt Damon feud
Similar to Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon also share an ongoing feud since years. The feud first began when Kimmel randomly mentioned Damon as the butt of his joke. Since then, the duo have went back and forth against each other. Interestingly, ahead of this year’s Oscars, Kimmel playfully told PEOPLE, “I hope he never gets nominated again.”
Back in 2017 Academy Awards, we witnessed an incredibly hilarious moment between the two. As Damon was presenting an award alongside Ben Affleck, Kimmel made sure the orchestra was loud enough to ensure Damon’s voice did not reach the audience.
5) When Jimmy Kimmel dissed sexism
Kimmel once addressed how clueless Hollywood remains about women using a very subtle reference from a rom com. At the 2018 Oscars, he revealed that the film industry remained clueless towards women as he spoke, “We made a movie called What Women Want and it starred Mel Gibson.”
6) When The Shape of Water won the best picture award

The iconic moment took place in 2018. Guillermo del Toro’ won the best picture award for the Shape Of Water. The film follows the story of Sally Hawkins as Eliza Esposito. Interestingly, Hawkins’ character falls in love with a humanoid amphibian. Kimmel began his a monologue in a hilarious style as he teased how people would remember this year as the year men failed so miserably that the “women started dating fish.”
Jimmy Kimmel would be taking over the host’s job yet again this year. It would be a hilarious affair to see the comedian come up with new jibes and jokes for the audience.
