“She told me his rhyming skills are down,” – When Will Smith Dedicated His Grammy Win to His Son
Will Smith can be considered a legend when it comes to acting with films like Aladdin, King Richard, The Pursuit of Happyness, Bad Boys, and Focus in his arsenal. Apart from being an actor, the 54-year-old is also renowned as a successful rapper. Smith has a whopping four Grammy Awards to his name, and it says a lot about his outstanding achievement in the music industry.
The King Richard actor received his first Grammy in 1989 at the age of 20 for the hit number, Parents Just Don’t Understand. Winning a Grammy is a big deal, but in 1997, Smith made the victory more special by dedicating the award to his firstborn Trey. The superstar has Trey from his first wife, Sheree Zampino. Will Smith hailed his wife and son on the stage
In the 1999 award ceremony, Will Smith was presented a Grammy by Missy Elliot for the song Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It. The American actor seemed pretty emotional on the stage as he expressed his gratitude to God and his second wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, for being the jiggiest wife in the world. Meanwhile, he also narrated a hilarious incident from his son’s Trey parent-teacher meeting.
The 54-year-old had recalled Trey’s teacher telling him about his son being weak in rhyming. Although the teacher was all praises for Trey, she believed that he had room for improvement when it came to his rhyming skills. Smith took the entire blame himself for neglecting his child and thus dedicated the award to his son.

“He’s paying attention in class, but his teacher told me his rhyming skills are down. I swear now see for me that’s just pure parental neglect, you know, so I want to dedicate this award to my son Trey,” Smith said while receiving the award.
Will Smith and his current wife Jada share a warm and loving relationship with Trey. Initially, Trey was not fond of his father, as he blamed Smith for abandoning him when he was just three years old. However, with time, the two have warmed up with each and have rekindled their love and friendship.
