Shawn Levy has established himself as an exceptional storyteller, primarily known for his prowess in the realm of science fiction and action genres. From The Adam Project to Free Guy, in recent years the director has cracked the golden code of making a blockbuster series. While many would assume the answer to be Ryan Reynolds, various other ventures of Levy, such as Night at the Museum, would go on to prove that it is the filmmaker’s dexterity to bring characters to life in a whole new world. His recent ventures, however, do not cash on this skill of the director to the full extent.

Amidst the making of Deadpool 3, Shawn Levy has traced back to where it all began. As fans were busy paying attention to how he shaped up the characters of Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld’s comics, Shawn Levy had been putting his genius into bringing a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel to life.

As Shawn Levy joined his A-lister Hollywood pals to become a character in Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s currently unfolding romance, Netflix was gearing up to release a very special project. The streamer had roped in Shawn Levy to direct a series based on Anthony Doerr’s masterpiece, All the Light We Cannot See, the official trailer of which Netflix recently released. And Levy, owing to the fact that he directed it and also that it looks nothing short of a visual masterpiece, wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Waited years to bring this incredible book to the screen.”

While there is not much room for doubt, especially after the trailer release, that the limited series will be anything but exceptional, it has big shoes to fill. Netflix may have more than a couple of teenage-oriented dramas on its trending list, but it specializes in churning out the most magnificent of tales set amidst the misery of wars. A great example would be Netflix’s All Quiet On the Western Front, which earned nine nominations at the Academy Awards 2023, out of which it won four.

Levy’s potential to infuse emotion into his projects could breathe new life into the rich, historical context of the narrative, creating a unique viewing experience that transcends his previous work. It would be a cinematic departure worth anticipating for both fans of the book and Levy’s cinematic style.
