Ryan Reynolds Goes Welsh, as He Accepts the Dragon Award From the Government of Wales for His and Rob McElhenney’s Amazing Work
Ryan Reynolds bought Wrexham AFC in collaboration with Rob McElhenney last year. This club was the first professional football team in Wales founded by members of the town’s cricket club in 1864. The Canadian star bought it, intending to revive the legacy and bring the club back to the English Football League. The pair has been working dedicatedly since to reinforce Wrexham’s values and expand its identity.
Reynolds and McElhenney found Wrexham different from other teams and loved how their communities are connected to the soccer club. They have tried their best to learn about Welsh culture whenever they visited the ground. And it seems the Deadpool star has finally got it in him as he goes Welsh while accepting the Dragon Award from the Government of Wales for his and partner’s amazing work.

Ryan Reynolds speaks Welsh during the honoring event in New York
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have been recently honored by S4C, the Welsh government and the Football Association of Wales. The American stars received the Diolch Y Ddraig (Dragon Award) for bringing the Welsh culture to an international platform. They have been promoting the country and its language through their series Welcome to Wrexham.
During the acceptance speech on stage, McElhenney nudged his friend and said, “Do you want to try some Welsh Ryan?” In his response, the Red Notice star said “Cymru am byth,” which means Wales Forever. Well, the 45-year-old actor has finally learned to speak the language.
Not long ago, it all started with the competitive spirit when the co-chairmen of Wrexham made a bet. The Hillside star said that he would publicly broadcast his colonoscopy if the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star learned to speak Welsh language.

It turned out that McElhenney became fluent in the language. Therefore, as the fans witnessed, Reynolds shared the video of test for colon cancer on his social media accounts.
