From speculated reasons behind their Royal exit to the divided public views regarding the same, there is so much spoken and written about the infamous incident. Harry and Meghan were set to mimic an aspect of Prince Philip and the Queen’s journey

Valentine Low is a Royal correspondent since 2008 and has written abundantly about the royal family for the Times of London. Low has even traveled with the Queen, the Prince, Princess of Wales, and many other Royals. According to his upcoming Royal Book titled Adapted from Courtiers: The Hidden Power Behind The Crown, things could’ve been very different had everything gone according to plan. What plan, you ask?

Apparently, before the ill-famed “Megxit,” Harry and Meghan were going to take just a year off from the UK. This intention was in line with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip’s journey. “Soon after the Queen and Prince Philip married, they’d lived in Malta,” wrote Low, as reported by Mirror. In Low’s reports, Prince Harry and Prince William’s former foreign affairs adviser, David Manning, had proposals in place for the Sussexes.

They were going to move to South Africa for a year. Presumably, the power couple had numerous projects and humanitarian interests planned for their year-long stay.

A paper was written outlining the options, and the couple were said to like the idea of a year in Africa,” wrote Low.

However, looks like the proposal never met its fruition reportedly because of insufficient money and a shortfall in security.
