The countdown to Rick and Morty season 6 has already begun. The dimension-hopping duo will soon hit Adult Swim, bringing in more humor, mind-boggling adventures, and those sci-fi parodies that are not only entertaining but introspective, as well. Notably, over the course of 5 seasons, the concept of the multiverse has only become significant in the show. What was earlier adopted to evoke humor has now become a huge part of storytelling. And not only for this particular series, but it has also been a prominent part of Marvel Studios projects and the Disney world.

Now, if you are wondering how they tackle the idea of the multiverse, today is your lucky day. Ricky and Morty’s co-creator, Justin Roiland, recently spilled beans about Marvel and other projects that embed this notion in their projects. So with little ado, let’s quickly dive into what he got to say.

Co-creator of Rick and Morty Discusses their reaction to Marvel’s multiverse plans

Rick and Morty series co-creator Justin Roiland addressed Marvel’s expanding use of the multiverse idea and how the animated series varies from that concept during a recent press event in advance of Rick and Morty’s sixth season, which premieres next month. The key issue is how the series is able to have vastly varied notions for each of its main characters whilst being able to establish a single “canon” for the whole of the series.

Roiland says that Marvel and DC comics have been experimenting with the idea way before Ricky and Morty came to life. He believes that they have got contradictions and there are things in the Marvel type of multiverse “canon” that are inconsistent. “As long as they’re doing it and they’re going to go there and really commit to multiverse sh-t, I’m so there for it,” added Roiland.

Roiland is enthusiastic as he continues to discuss the new multiverse that is being created, “I think it’s all really cool and I’d want to see more of it and I’m excited that it’s happening.” Rick and Morty’s multiverse, he believes, offers a new level of flexibility for the characters and ideas the series might explore. “…I guess that’s the big cheat code when you have multiverses,” Roiland stated. “And that’s something that we’ve leaned into on this show where we were able to have characters have full-blown.”
