Amongst the A-list actors that are working today very few can lay claim to the title of an action star as well as a superstar. The British actor Henry Cavill is one of the few that can. The man has not only proved his ability to pull crowds to the theater but has also managed to give a solid start to a fantasy series based on a video game. 

With the news of Henry quitting as the Geralt of Rivia and outrage pouring in from fans everywhere, we take a look at the time the actor signed up for the series for the first time.

Henry Cavill entered a contract with Netflix to star in the adaptation of The Witcher in 2018

Henry Cavill was already a star before he joined Netflix’s The Witcher. He had already proven himself as the new generation of Superman having starred in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. He starred in plenty of other projects even in action comedies like Guy Ritchie’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E. He delivered some sleek action with some laughs. Soon after he joined Tom Cruise’s vehicle Mission Impossible: Fallout.

His antagonistic turn in the movie was much appreciated. And he decided to continue playing a gray character when he agreed to lead Netflix’s flagship high fantasy series in 2018. It was not his first brush with television. The British actor appeared in the historical show, The Tudors which ended in 2010.

After a long hiatus, the actor was returning to the small screen again. This time to work with Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Marvel’s Daredevil) as showrunner and Alik Sakharov (Game of Thrones). He was to play Geralt of Rivia, the lone monster hunter. 

The news was positively received. The actor was himself a confessed fan of the original novels that the series is based on. After nearly three seasons of Cavill perfectly embodying the role of the monster hunter, he is finally handing over the torch to Liam Hemsworth. Season 3 is yet to arrive but before it does, Cavill fans can see him as Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes 2.
