As Ralph Macchio plays Daniel LaRusso in the film series and Cobra Kai, the actor’s opinion is crucial. “I was not a fan of how the Karate Kid III came out,” Ralph admitted. “I felt the story was only repeating itself and was not character forwarding for the end of LaRusso.”
The third movie premiered on June 30, 1989, and collected $39 million in Box office. Among all the three films, the third one has fared the worst with an IMDb rating of 5.3. However, the movie had some significant plot points like Daniel’s training at Cobra Kai and Terry Silver’s introduction.

Although the third movie received some negative reviews, the audience liked the movie’s premise. Daniel training at Cobra Kai and having a moment of realization after breaking a man’s nose in the nightclub was an interesting spin. Cobra Kai creators might have taken inspiration from the movie to inculcate a unique flip of perspective.

In general, the movies also suffered from antagonists who weren’t fleshed out. However, Cobra Kai has worked on the shortcomings, as it gave backstories to Johnny, Kreese, and Chozen. Terry Silver is also a character who acts as a plot catalyst in season 4 of Cobra Kai. Ralph Macchio explained:
“There is a larger-than-life element to Cobra Kai. When you break it down, it is kind of ridiculous — but that is why it is so much fun! So, you take a character like Terry Silver for this show, with those larger-than-life elements and his relationship with Daniel, then add those layers of complexity to his evilness.”
