For Prince Harry, growing up as a son to Princess Diana and witnessing the harsh complications of her life, had its own long-lasting impact on his thought process. Unlike his brother, who walked in the footsteps of the Monarchy, Harry chose to walk in the footsteps of Diana. Ever since, although he tried his best to get along with the family that cast his mother out, he ultimately came out as a misfit himself. And so did his wife, Meghan Markle.

Childhood traumas have their own ways of manifesting themselves. For Harry, losing the most important part of his life to a tragic death had always been an incurable wound. As agonizing as it was, Princess Diana’s never-ending suffering has left its mark on her younger son. As a result, now that things are around the corner starts focusing on his wife, Meghan Markle, and she has now become a tabloid staple as Diana, Harry’s growing fears have taken their shape.

Prince Harry fears a similar fate for Meghan Markle as was for Princess Diana

Addressing the same, Prince Harry spoke about the “pains and suffering of women” in Britain’s oldest Institution. Starting from following strict protocol to adhering to a set of rules to be a part of the Imperial Family, they go through it all. Whoever serves fit, survives, or else is devastated from the very core. However, unlike the vast majority, there are some women who refuse to abide by societal conventions and stereotypical protocols. 

Princess Diana was the pioneer of such a mindset. And as per present circumstances, walking in her footsteps is the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, who has always been the architect of her own life. This, however, is not acceptable to the British tabloids. Royal experts, as a matter of course, have taken their jibe at the couple for breaking the norms. Following Princess Diana’s tragic death, the two brothers addressed the press. Teenage Harry stated that “the ripple effect of a culture of exploitation and unethical practices ultimately took her life“. 

Believing the same to this date, the father of two stated that the uninterrupted coverage of his wife was “feeding the frenzy.” As per his words in the trailer, he was “terrified of history repeating itself.” Therefore, to prevent a similar fate that met Princess Diana, Prince Harry did all he could to protect his family. Amidst the rise of a global pandemic, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex renounced the Palace and settled in their California estate.
