Peaky Blinders Season 6: Writer Steven Knight Never Predicted the Series to Look Like This

There are hardly a few series as big and impactful as BBC’s gangster drama series Peaky Blinders. The show has had a global impact until now. It continues to instigate a feeling of awe in anyone who is introduced to its beauty. Today, the world bore witness to the beginning of Peaky Blinders season 6. But the writer of the story never actually believed that it can become this big in the first place.

In a recent talk with BFI’s Adrian Chiles, just before the series premiere, Stephen Knight opened up about how he felt about the current condition of the series. Evidently, the drama series today is one of the most loved throughout the globe. However, that was not the case when Stephen was writing the first season. Here is what he had to say about the current success of the series and how he never thought this could happen.

In a BFI at Home talk organized by the British Film Institute, series writer Stephen Knight was in conversation with host Adrian Chiles. During the conversation, Aidan asked Stephen that if he were to give him a crystal ball at the time he started writing this series, and tell him how Peaky Blinders season 6 would look like, would he have any clue about it?

Stephen Knight had a rather beautiful answer for this. He said that it would have been impossible to predict everything that had happened with the show. Knight believes that the show has grown with every season. He said, “with every series, it’s grown bigger; in between the series, it grows bigger“. He also talked about how even today he meets people who have just discovered Peaky Blinders, even though the last season is on air now.

He never thought the show will be a global phenomenon

While conversing with Aidan, Knight pointed out how Peaky Blinders has struck a chord with a global audience, something he never predicted. He said, “It’s set in Birmingham, it’s in the 1920s. Who would have thought that it would strike chords with people in Rio and Russia and China and all over the world?

Today, the show boasts a dedicated fanbase, and it is truly beautiful to see how integrated that community is. Peaky Blinders Season 6 is indeed going to be a sad, given that it is the last. However, Stephen Knight has already started working on a movie, so that is good news!

Peaky Blinders season 6 is now available on BBC Network and on BBC iPlayer. Meanwhile, Netflix subscribers still await its arrival on the streaming platform.
