Netflix has added yet another young adult romance film, Purple Hearts to its growing catalog of romance movies. The streamer has previously achieved quite a bit of success with feel-good romance films like Set It Up, Kissing Booth, The Perfect Date, and To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. After keeping it under wraps for an entire year, the streamer has finally teased some first-look images. The movie is adapted from Tess Wakefield’s novel of the same name.

A marriage of convenience turns into romance

Our main heroine, Cassie, is a struggling musician and also a bartender. But her paychecks aren’t enough to cover her medical bills. Her treatments for diabetes are making it hard for her to make ends meet. She proposes a marriage of convenience to her friend in the army. When he refuses, his acquaintance Luke approaches Cassie and accepts her proposal for reasons of his own. Although their marriage is only a show, the two end up falling for each other.

There are no trailers available yet. But the first look images show the two in an embrace. In another photo, we see Cassie playing the piano. Interestingly, the actress is a musician in real life!

What drew me to the story the most was the message. We live in a country that’s so incredibly divided right now, red versus blue. This story is about choosing not to see color and choosing love, above all things, and how a red heart and a blue heart can come together and choose love,” explained Carson.
