One Year After Oscar Win, Will Smith Bags NAACP Award for His Work in Historical Film ‘Emancipation’

How a small gesture of appreciation can cheer us up and make us happier! It makes us do more as we become motivated by the gesture. The Oscar-winning actor, Will Smith, must be feeling the same. After his slapping incident, the actor bagged the first award for his film, Emancipation.

Any award ceremony becomes more fun when the announcers announce the winners of the award. Recently, while artists got an appreciation for their art in cinema at the NAACP Image Awards, the 54-year-old actor also got an award. Will Smith won the award for Outstanding Actor in a motion picture in Emancipation. Along with musicians like Beyonce and Rihanna, the Men in Black actor also got appreciated for his tremendous performance in the historical action thriller film.

The actor could not be present at the event to receive the honor. Therefore, Janelle Monáe, the American singer, rapper, and actress, accepted the trophy on Smith’s behalf, reported by Deadline.

Set in Louisiana in the 1860s, after President Abraham Lincoln declared an end to slavery in the US, Emancipation is a story based on true events. It is the story of enslaved men, Gordon and Peter. Peter (Will Smith) escaped for his freedom and the story followed the man and his miseries. While the film got widely positive reviews, the actor himself opened up about how shooting some scenes took a toll on him.
