‘One Piece’ Live Action Production Begins, Luffy Sets Off To Become the Pirate King – Here Are the Details
Anime fans get excited. For now, it is finally the time you see Luffy and his crew take shape in the real world. We have been hearing the news about Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece for quite some time now, but we never really had any concrete updates to talk about yet. Finally, we have some great news for everyone, as the production of the much-awaited series has finally begun in the country of South Africa.
The product of the collaboration of Shueisha, Netflix, and Tomorrow Studios is something everyone was looking forward to. One Piece live-action will follow the same story as the original manga. This series will specifically recreate the East Blue Saga from the manga series. Hence, this will also feature Luffy trying to build a crew to achieve his lifelong dream of becoming the Pirate King.

In a recent update, Netflix announced that the production of the live-action adaptation of One Piece has finally begun. The Netflix series will have 10 episodes and follow the lead character Luffy as he establishes his famous Straw Hats pirates. The tweet from Netflix Geeked features two pictures featuring the cast of the show and a caption that confirms the beginning of the production.
The showrunner for One Piece, Steven Maeda, also took to Twitter to tease the manga/anime-based show. He posted a picture of a straw hat keychain, with the caution, “The Day of the Beginning…”
What is the cast of One Piece?
The first few cast members of the show include Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, and Emily Rudd as Nami. Along with them, we also have Jacob Romero Gibson as Usopp and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

Eiichiro Oda was really excited about the castings and he praised them saying, “Their face, the size of their mouths and hands, their aura, the way they carry themselves, their voice, their acting skills, their height, the balance amongst the Straw Hat Crew, etc…!” Oda continued, “We decided on this cast after numerous discussions involving people around the world! These are the people who will be our Straw Hat Pirates! It’ll take a bit more time to get this show done, but we’ll continue to do our best to deliver a show that we’re confident will be enjoyed by everyone around the world!
