‘Nimona’ Graphic Novel Creator ND Stevenson Celebrates the LGBTQ+ Animated Film’s Revival by Netflix: “she’s a fighter”
Netflix is getting popular for its reputation to take up projects after other production either refuses or cancels them. Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon is a case in point. But this time, Netflix has decided to revive an animated film Nimona after another production canceled it. The film has some major stars attached to it, making it one to look out for.
Nimona by Netflix what’s it about and who’s in it?
The planned animated film version of Nimona is based on ND Stevenson’s blockbuster graphic novel of the same name. In addition, the streamer has revealed the adventure film’s first-look shot, giving us our first glimpse at the animation design.

Chloe Grace Moretz (The Addams Family) has been cast as the titular shape-shifting adolescent. Riz Ahmed and YouTube star Eugene Lee Yang will be playing Ballister Boldheart and Ambrosius Goldenlion, respectively.
Knight Ballister Boldheart is wrongfully accused of a crime he didn’t do in the LGBTQ+-theme film. The only person who can help him establish his innocence is Nimona. Nimona is a shape-shifting youngster who could be a monster Boldheart has vowed to kill.
This inclusive narrative about the labels we attach to individuals and the shapeshifter, who refuses to be classified by anyone. The film takes place in a techno-medieval universe. As a result, the animation will be unlike what we have seen before.
Who are the minds behind the film?
Nick Bruno and Troy Quane are directing Nimona. Production began early last year, and we expect the film to debut in 2023.
Netflix collaborated with Annapurna Pictures for this film. Roy Lee and Karen Ryan are producing the film. Julie Zackary, with Robert L. Baird, Megan Ellison, and Andrew Millstein, exec producing, and DNEG, handle the animation.

Moretz will also appear in Amazon’s science fiction series The Peripheral, Anne Sewitsky’s thriller White Night, starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Kike Maillo’s crime drama, Love Is a Gun.
And next for Riz Ahmed is Yann Demange’s sci-fi drama Exit West. Encounter, Mogul Mowgli, Sound of Metal, and the Netflix series The OA are among his latest credits.

The prospect of so many great actors, plus a great team behind the camera is certainly promising. Only time will tell if this venture turns out as a success for Netflix.
