Netflix to Land on Danzel Washingston’s This Hit Film in Search of Their Next Big Original Series
Netflix is on a roll lately with its latest original programming. Wednesday broke records for the streamer. And then it followed it up with You and Shadow and Bone season 2. After a rough year last year, when the platform had to axe a lot of shows for not performing well, it seems the storm has passed for the streamer. Now the digital streaming platform is hoping to bring in more action series. And for its next, it plans to adapt a Denzel Washington starrer.
The Hollywood Reporter reported that Netflix is planning to adapt the 2004 hit film, Man on Fire, in a TV format. The movie was a certified blockbuster when it was released. It was made on a budget of $60 million, but accumulated around $120 million at the box office. The figures further rose when the film was released on a DVD. It was based on A. J. Quinnell’s bestselling novel of the same name, released in the 1980s. The Netflix adaptation is reportedly going to have eight episodes. So far only Halo’s showrunner Kyle Killen is attached to the project.

There is no information about the plot. However, it is likely to follow the revenge plot of the book and the movie. In the movie, Denzel Washington played an ex-CIA agent, Creasy. He decided to become a bodyguard of a young girl at his friend’s insistence. They soon turn to bond, but things quickly go downhill when the girl is kidnapped.

The streamer has not announced the cast for the project yet. But whoever gets cast has to fill in some big roles.
Following the Denzel Washington starrer, the Netflix series will be the third adaptation of the novel
Interestingly, the 2004 action hit was not the first adaptation. It was the second one. The first one was released in 1987 and starred Scott Glenn and Joe Pesci. The film tanked despite following the source material closely, and the author was also not a big fan of the adaptation either. He much preferred the second adaptation. Apparently, Glenn was not a very convincing action lead.

With Netflix taking a third stab at the source, we will have to wait and see whether Quinnell approves of Netflix’s attempt or not. But we can hope for the best since the Wednesday adaptation did turn out more than great!
