The Power of the Dog- Netflix’s best bet as the Oscar nominations 2022 are announced

Netflix’s biggest bet at winning the Oscar award for Best Picture is the wild west story The Power of the Dog. Focusing on the life of rancher Phil Burbank, played by the amazing Benedict Cumberbatch, the film presents to viewers a character who is both gay and homophobic.

Playing a character as complex as Phil was not an easy task. However, Cumberbatch proved once again why critics love him so much as an actor. Despite starring and excelling in titles like War Horse, Sherlock, Atonement, and The Imitation Game, his portrayal of Phil is said to be his career-best. Therefore, it is no surprise that Benedict Cumberbatch was nominated for the award for Best Lead Actor.

Other 2022 Oscar nominations this movie has bagged are:

  • Best Director- Jane Campion
  • Best Supporting Actor- Jesse Plemons
  • Best Supporting Actor- Kodi Smit McPhee
  • Best Supporting Actress- Kirsten Dunst
  • Best Adapted Screenplay- Jane Campion
  • Best Cinematography- Ari Wegner
  • Best Original Score- Jonny Greenwood

This totals up to a whopping 12 Oscar nominations in 2022 for The Power of the Dog alone.

Tick, Tick… Boom!

Moreover, Tick, Tick… Boom! has managed to get nominated in the Best Film Editing as well.

Don’t Look Up

With an ensemble cast like no other and a plot and screenplay that few can criticize, Don’t Look Up was bound to win many nominations.

As is evident from the following list, getting numerous Oscar nominations it did.
