Netflix casts Raya and The Last Dragon star to complete the formidable Azula’s trio for ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’

Since its announcement in 2018, Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender has been a project to look out for. This year luckily, we got major updates regarding the project, which included episode runtime to major cast updates. And now we have new reports of another casting that shall complete the trio of Azula.

Another update about the casting of a significant character in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender shall bring Azula’s trio of the Fire Nation’s most dangerous warriors to a close. According to the most recent reports, the actor will play Mai.

Who will play Mai in the Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series?

Thalia Tran, who has previously acted in titles such as Raya and the Last Dragon, will represent the Fire Nation noble in the next drama and will have a larger role than her animated counterpart, according to Avatar News. Along with her will be Momona Tamada, who was recently cast as Ty Lee, and Lizzy Yu, who will play their shaky buddy, the cold-hearted Princess Azula.

Mai had been one of Azula and Ty Lee’s closest pals since they were children. She was introduced in the Book 2 episode Return to Omashu as the daughter of Ukano, who was temporarily appointed governor of Omashu after it was taken by the Fire Nation and renamed New Ozai.

She was instrumental in Azula’s capture of Ba Sing Se and subsequently helped Zuko and Sokka and the Fire Nation’s war prisoners escape from the Boiling Rock prison, betraying Azula out of love for Zuko.

The capacity of her role is unceratin

It’s unclear how much greater a part will she play than the characters on Nickelodeon’s popular show. Previously we came to know that Avatar Kuruk will also be in the series. Kuruk had just one complete appearance in the animated series and was only hinted at in Book 1. Another character to have a comparatively greater role than its animated counterpart will be Avatar Kyoshi.
