The only silver lining for Netflix amid the chaos of Hollywood strikes and protests was the live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda’s manga series, One Piece. This series marked a turning point for Netflix’s anime adaptations. It planted a sense of trust in the hearts of viewers regarding Netflix’s prowess in creating impressive live-action anime renditions. Months after its massive success, Netflix dropped the first look of another upcoming live-action manga adaptation, Yu Yu Hakusho

The live-action adaptation, Yu Yu Hakusho, has been the talk of manga enthusiasts for months. There have also been numerous comparisons between the upcoming series and Matt Owens-Steven Maeda’s creation. And the trailer of the upcoming Japanese action fantasy series heightened the anticipation of the fans to another level. The trailer gave a glimpse of the origin story of Yusuke Urameshi, a teenager who died in a car accident.

The trailer teased fans with sneak peeks of Urmeshi’s supernatural battles after he returns to Earth as a spirit detective. It also introduced the Toguro brothers, the antagonists, who by the end of the series, will be doomed to eternal suffering. The live-action adaptation is based on Yoshihiro Togashi’s best-selling manga series and will hit the screens on 14th December.

Weeks ahead of its release, fans are already giving Yu Yu Hakusho a green light, making its success hopeful. 

Will Yu Yu Hakusho surpass the success of One Piece?

One Piece became the record-breaking manga live adaptation of Netflix. The show even surpassed the records of popular originals of the OTT platform, Stranger Things and Wednesday. One Piece became the most-watched Netflix series in 84 countries across the globe and received highly positive reviews. Given the positive response of fans to the trailer of Yu Yu Hakusho, there is a fair chance for the Akira Morii and Kazutaka Sakamoto-developed series to become another hit on the streaming platform. 

While some appreciated the glimpses of fight scenes in the trailer, others appreciated the vibrant colors that enhanced the visual aesthetic of the trailer.

Fans also expressed their excitement at seeing Toguro in the trailer. A fan speculated that the season will end with Yusuke fighting the younger Toguro.

Fans have a lot of expectation with Netflix’s upcoming manga live-action adaptation. However, there is also a section that is still apprehensive regarding the OTT giant’s credibility to churn out impressive live-action manga adaptations and do justice to the originals. Whether One Piece was an accidental success or Netflix has finally figured out the formula to create successful adaptations will be out in the open with Yu Yu Hakusho‘s release.
