Millie Bobby Brown’s ‘The Electric State’ Has a Major Curse That Could Tank the Russo Brothers’ Helmed Ship for Netflix
Millie Bobby Brown is among the lucky few whose Hollywood debut was deemed a stellar breakthrough role in the sci-fi series Stranger Things. After her spectacular performance in it, the 21-year-old landed a part in another sci-fi project by Netflix, The Electric State. The movie follows the story of Michelle, played by Brown, and her robot friend as they navigate a gloomy future world in search of Michelle’s sibling. However, the film is at risk due to the history of the siblings directing the flick, Russo brothers.
Here is how this director duo’s murky past could affect the upcoming flick.

The Russo brothers have delivered four rather well-received movies for Marvel Studios, including two each from the Captain America and the Avengers franchises. However, when it comes to non-MCU projects for which they cast Marvel actors, the formula rarely worked. A primary example of this is The Gray Man in which they cast the lead of their Captain Marvel flicks, Chris Evans alongside megastar Ryan Gosling and yet failed to impress.
The 2022 movie received a disheartening 44% approval rating. In 2021, the duo delivered the hit Spider-Man: No Way Home helmed by Tom Holland. However, the same year they teamed up with Holland to direct the war drama, Cherry which flopped, receiving a mere 37% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Considering how The Electric State follows the same pattern with MCU stars, Chris Pratt, Jennifer Garner, and Anthony Mackie, the curse might cast its shadow on it too!
Besides this worrying factor, there is still a silver lining to it all that could save the film.

One exception to the Russo Brothers’ pattern has been Extraction in which the Thor extraordinaire, Chris Hemsworth, shone as a mercenary on a mission. Well, Extraction followed a similar narrative of ‘extraction’ as Millie Bobby Brown’s character sets out to rescue her brother in a post-apocalyptic world. Not to forget the similarities the project shares with another stellar flick with a Marvel star in the lead.
The movie in question is Ryan Reynolds-led The Adam Project, which features many overlapping elements with The Electric State. Another thing to note is that the Russo pair may just have perfected their techniques through trial and error with the aforementioned flicks. This means that there could be hope for The Electric State despite the Russo Brothers’ past setbacks.
