Season 4 has been emotionally and psychologically draining for Eleven where she seems to lose all the happy moments of her life. Being the main character of the show, Millie Bobby Brown has dug deep into the traumatic memories of younger Eleven. And the whole process seemed difficult for the actor too because she had to prepare herself for that, in reality, to represent it onscreen. In a recent conversation with Variety, Millie Bobby Brown revealed her experience of shooting the sequences that took place in the Hawkins National Laboratory. She found the Nina tank shots very challenging as she spent 10 to 12 hours a day inside them. And it took many days to complete the subconscious scenes of Eleven’s mind. Because the process we saw characters performing for Eleven’s way to find Will in Upside Down was real.
The creators actually put a lot of salt in the Nina tank so Millie Bobby Brown could float in the water. Moreover, they tested the floating level by getting an egg before she entered the tank. She said it was more complicated because people were around but she couldn’t feel or see anyone. While there was no sound as her ears were submerged in water. She said she was only hoping that she is doing it correctly and depended on her notes completely.
Millie also shared her experience of the time she spent inside saying:

“Also, I suffer from claustrophobia, so when we closed the tank, I definitely felt like, “Oh my gosh, I am Eleven, I am really going through this.”

Millie felt suffocated in the enclosed space and she only had the support of a microphone to hear the outside world. In addition, Millie convinced herself that she is Eleven dwelling on her blocked memories. Which was much harder to express through her acting as it was a new thing for her.
Although being claustrophobic in the tank Millie Bobby Brown did do a convincing job. The way she reacted to things as she said she did embody Eleven’s character astoundingly. Millie is a once-in-a-lifetime actor for the heights of success she achieved at such young age. And we are soon going to see that again in volume 2 on July 1, 2022.
