Over the last decade, dystopian thrillers like Dune and The Hunger Games franchise have become all the rage. Picking up on this cultural shift, Netflix has pushed the genre through massively successful works like The Adam Project and Black Mirror. The latest among these is The Electric State starring Millie Bobby Brown which is set in a post-apocalyptic world like many of its predecessors. One thing to note is that this upcoming flick has a lot more in common with Ryan Reynolds’ The Adam Project than just its genre. 

These commonalities might be foretelling the movie’s outcome echoing the 2022 flick’s triumph.  

The Electric State and The Adam Project’s shared elements

The casting in The Adam Project leaned on the experience of Marvel actors like Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner to capture the essence of fantasy-based action sequences. Similarly, The Electric State has roped in Chris Pratt, Michelle Yeoh and Anthony Mackle to achieve the same effect. When combined with the sci-fi expertise of Stranger Things’ Millie Bobby Brown, a hit is imminent!

Even in the production department, both movies have relied on the expertise of directors who have pulled off multiple MCU hits! In The Electric State’s case, it will be the Russo brothers whose expertise in action thrillers like The Gray Man and Extraction speaks for itself. As for the element that makes or breaks one’s cinematic experience, the plot, there are various overlapping themes between The Electric State and The Adam Project in that department too. 

In the upcoming Sci-fi thriller, the narrative runs parallel to The Adam Project’s in many ways. 

The similarities between Millie Bobby Brown and Ryan Reynolds’ roles

A barren future riddled with technological complexities sets the scene for a lonely hero and a sidekick to embark on a journey to find their lost family member. This plot crudely summarizes the storyline of the upcoming The Electric State in which Millie Bobby Brown is the hero who has undertaken this deadly challenge as Ryan Reynolds did in The Adam Project. 

In Brown’s case, her character, Michelle searches for her brother with the help of a robot like Walker Scobell’s character did for Reynolds’ in the 2022 flick. Behind-the-scenes images from its shoot suggest that Chris Pratt’s character joins Michelle on this arduous expedition. Slated to drop sometime this year, viewers will have to wait and see if the 19-year-old can pull off this task as spectacularly as Reynolds did.
