The whistling winds, the far cry of a coyote, an isolated house in the middle of nowhere with creaking floorboards. The scene sets in! Did this send chills down your spine and get you excited at the same time? Then you are in for a treat! Mike Flanagan, after the recent success of Midnight Mass, has announced yet another Horror drama series.
The director recently took to Twitter and revealed the production wrap for The Fall of the House of Usher. Audiences and critics alike showered Mike Flanagan with adoration for all his previous endeavors on Netflix. From Haunting of the Hill House, Haunting of Bly Manor to Midnight Club, and of course, the latest Midnight Mass; all were off the charts.
Mike Flanagan thanks his team on Twitter
Flanagan’s communique on Twitter wasn’t just about the production wrap. In a heartwarming message, he demonstrated his appreciation for the cast, crew, and collaborators over the past three years. He further illustrates that they have been filming in Vancouver for the past 3 years and have wrapped up 4 series in that period.
A few minutes ago we wrapped production on THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER, closing a huge chapter of my life. I've worked in Vancouver almost nonstop since BLY MANOR in 2019. We made 4 series in 3 years, only taking a short break for the COVID lockdown in early 2020.

Completely elated by this experience of “over THIRTY-FOUR EPISODES of television,” and calls it “the most difficult and rewarding work of my life.” Henry Thomas, Bruce Greenwood, Tahira Sharif, Amelie Smith, Samantha Sloyan, and Robert Longstreet were among the actors Flanagan thanked by name for The Fall of the House of Usher and Bly Manor.
He dedicated a special thanks and expressed his delight at working with Luke Skywalker himself. Mark Hamill, according to Mike, is playing, “a character surprisingly at home in the shadows”. He mentioned his Star Wars hero was “just as awesome as you hope and then some.”
The Fall of the House of Usher succeeds Midnight Mass
His new series The Fall of the House of Usher is based on the 1839 short story by Edgar Allan Poe. Poe was an American writer, poet, and bibliophile renowned for his macabre narrative capabilities, especially in the mystery genre. As a major figure in American Romanticism and American literature, he is widely regarded as a key figure.
The short story was an 1840 issue in Poe’s Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque. It is a supernatural horror wherein an unidentified narrator attempts to help his long-lost friend, Roderick Usher. Usher suffers from mental health ailments and longs for the narrator’s company.
Upon arriving at his fantastical yet almost dilapidating family mansion, the narrator uncovers strange symptoms, disturbing revelations, and several hidden secrets. The Fall of the House of Usher is speculated to borrow from a wide variety of Poe’s works, not unlike Bly Manor, which was inspired and adapted from the works of Henry James.
The creators have kept much of the narrative details for the new series confidential. However, this build-up sure has got the viewers excited. As we wait for the official release date, one must re-watch his previous shows like Haunting of Hill House, Bly manor, and Midnight Mass on Netflix.
