Mass communication is the most potent weapon of the 21st century. It can create awareness or instill emotions in humans that we did not know existed before. A testament to this can be the hit Netflix Documentary, The Tinder Swindler. It looks like the message that the documentary was conveying has been heard loud and clear by the responsible authorities.

Tinder being safer thanks to The Tinder Swindler

After seeing the highly successful documentary The Tinder Swindler on Netflix, we all got to know the story of Simon Leviev, aka Shimon Hayut or now popularly known as The Tinder Swindler. We learned how he conned multiple women for a staggering $430,000.

Now it looks like we aren’t the only ones who have seen the film and chosen to be more cautious.

According to Tinder’s new guideline, the popular dating site has updated its criminal background checking because of the documentary.

Now Tinder’s new tool would allow users to conduct background checks on their dates to see whether they’ve committed any violent crimes or are on the sex offender register. The search will not include homicides and robberies that occurred more than 14 years ago. Financial offenses done more than seven years ago are likewise excluded.

It is good to see that the documentary awarded them about the users’ safety. And that Tinder is taking steps so that the unfortunate does not happen again.

Chances for a sequel?

As of now, there has been no announcement regarding a sequel or a second season for The Tinder Swindler. However, there have been rumors that Netflix might be going ahead with a feature film on the conman. But any new movie or series will not be here till 2023.
