Henry Cavill leaving a well-known franchise and leaving fans with a deep hollow is something we have unfortunately gotten used to. But thanks to Dwayne Johnson and probably some fans who probably sat in a praying circle for months, Cavill returned to DC as Superman. But the same is very unlikely to happen with The Witcher.

The reason why the actor so suddenly left the series that he was so excited to work in is still unknown. And although we have yet to see the last of the Superman actor on The Witcher, they just cannot imagine watching the series without the actor. But showrunner Lauren Hissrich has a different opinion.

Lauren Hissrich replaces Henry Cavill with Liam Hemsworth on The Witcher

Not long after it was announced that Henry Cavill was taking his leave from the series, rumors of Liam Hemsworth filling in began swirling around.

This left a bitter taste in fans’ mouths. While we have nothing against Liam Hemsworth, the actor is a work of art in his own right; it is how quickly the makers replaced Cavill that left fans bitter.

As executive producer of the series, Hissrich said that she is “excited about is that we are allowing this franchise to continue growing and that we get new energy and chemistry that we haven’t discovered yet” while speaking to Ryan Dinsdale. We can understand how viewers reducing the show to ‘nothing’ if it doesn’t have Cavill may seem upsetting to the creator. But it is too great of a loss to replace and move on.

While we are not going to pretend to be too high and mighty to accept that Henry Cavill leaving The Witcher has left us with a void so deep that no other announcement surrounding the series seems intriguing, there is also no denying that The Witcher NEEDS Cavill. When in 2019 Hissrich decided to make a series adaptation of what is unarguably one of the best games, gamers shot imaginary daggers at her. The video games were unmoved by the cinematically appealing trailers or the intriguing plot.

It is when Henry Cavill started yapping about the intricate details of Andrzej Sapkowski’s book, that only someone who has read the book a gazillion times would know that fans gave the series a chance. Cavill is as much an artist as he is an actor.

He likes to create and experiment and is deeply passionate about his projects. His attachment to the game could be seen through the numerous time he corrected interviewers who called Geralt ’emotionless.’ With Henry Cavill’s exit, The Witcher not only loses a brilliant actor but its soul.
