The major reason why people from the creative world i.e., writers, directors, and filmmakers like Arthurian Legends is that there are no original versions to these stories. The closest thing you can an “original” would be some Romano-British storyteller; singing about the glories of a local ruler and spicing the story up with some Celtic myths.

According to the Legend of Excalibur; the person who draws the sword Excalibur from the stone was to be the legitimate ruler of England, and of course, our hero Arthur was the one who did it. The story has been retold dozens of times, with writers adding and taking out things that they please; it really tells you about how efficient and talented artists are when they are given the freedom to express themselves.
