In Bridgerton season 2, we are going to witness newcomers in the show, the Sharma sisters, Kate Sharma and Edwina Sharma. Kate Sharma, played by Simon Ashley, who has known for her work in Sex Education, is already trying to avoid the risk of repeating what happened with Simon Basset aka the Duke from Bridgerton season 1.

After season 1 released in December, the show became an enormous hit on the platform, and easily made its way to Netflix’s top 10 list. Bridgerton season 1 became the most-watched show after Squid Game on Netflix.

Season 1 develops around the romantic relationship between Regé-Jean Page as Simon Basset and Phoebe Dynevor as Daphne Bridgerton. Since the show is about Bridgerton siblings, season 2 will highlight the story of Anthony Bridgerton.

Rege-Jean Page has hooked us with his performance. But unfortunately, he is not returning in Season 2, and we will know his whereabouts through Daphne. Page’s contract was for only season 1 because he wanted to explore different options without being defined by a character alone. However, Simone Ashley seems to have made a different choice altogether.

Kate Sharma is already avoiding Simon’s problem

Simone will play the character of Kate Sharma in Bridgerton, who is a fierce, bold, headstrong, and no-nonsense love interest of Anthony Bridgerton. She finds out about Anthony’s true intention of courting her sister and wants to stop the marriage. With their growing verbal sparring, they developed a steamy romantic relationship between them.

Simone Ashley has already received positive feedback for her casting, acting, and chemistry with Jonathan Bailey. Looks like the actress wants to be a part of Bridgerton past season 2. In conversation with Glamour, she admitted the same. This is despite knowing that she will not be in the spotlight in season 3 and 4 (already confirmed by Netflix).

Looks like she is unwilling to risk becoming a fan favorite, only to disappear later on, like Simon did.

Ashley’s desire to stay back will serve the show well. Shonda Rhimes has big plans for Bridgerton, starting with changing the genealogy of vital characters. Since the novel is set in London in 1800, when the society was openly racist and people of color couldn’t dream aristocracy. However, by introducing the Duke, Simon Basset, Rhimes was changing the status quo. However, after Regé-Jean Page‘s exit, that vision was at risk. With the Sharma family, Rhimes is back it again, and if she can keep Ashley around her vision of an inclusive show would be true.
