Kanye West does not hold back, ever. The man certainly has some unique big connections, from the former President to one of the richest men, Elon Musk. But his outspoken nature often extends to his songs as well. He is famously known for encrypted messages or even celebrity disses in his songs, as well as, using social media to let out his opinions. While this has certainly left a few burns and created rivalries, Kanye wishes to make amends too.
The hip-hop artist has had a public rivalry with Taylor Swift, Jay-z, and most recently Pete Davidson. One such person that distanced themselves from Kanye is NBA legend Michael Jordan. Both Ye and Jordan have a popular line of shoes, Yeezy and Jordans, respectively. Both the athlete and the singer are known to be competitive. But the entrepreneur in West did something that, according to him, has upset the former Chicago Bulls ace player. The rapper pondered on the fact that Jordan was still mad at him for something he did. But what did Ye do?
Kanye West on why Michael Jordan would not talk to him
Kanye West revealed the reason why he thinks Michael Jordan would not meet him. It all began back in 2015, when Kanye West released the song Facts, the lyrics of which involved dissing Michael Jordan’s brand Jumpman. The song was made to promote Ye’s Yeezy sneakers, while Jordan’s brand is a direct competitor to his. ‘Yeezy, Yeezy, Yeezy just jumped over Jumpman’. The catchy music caught Ye on the NBA player’s wrong side. During an appearance on REVOLT’s Drink Champs, Ye said, “Jordan still won’t meet with me. I’m trying to meet with Michael Jordan, it’s like ‘Man, it’s a song, man”.
According to West, Facts was a diss song not for Jordan, but more specifically for Nike. It was a competitive attempt on his side as a newcomer in the shoe business. The Gold Digger singer was the a non-sport personality to do collaborations of this kind.
This led him to make a direct comparison of his deal with Adidas to Jordan’s deal with Nike. So when the Runaway singer aimed an arrow at the senior sportsman, he did not take it lightly. While the Donda owner gained significantly in royalties from the Adidas sale, it is not close to Jordan’s revenue profits. Which according to you has a better line of shoes? Kanye West or Michael Jordan? Let us know in the comments.
