Ryan Reynolds once revealed what Welcome to Wrexham is really about. The entertainer has managed to penetrate his career into several horizons, from doing varied movie roles to being a businessman. This has not only helped him amass more wealth, but also helped extend his fan base and knowledge of the businesses he is involved in.

In an attempt to make his dream come true of entering the sports field, he purchased his first football team. It has been a couple of years now since he finalized the deal to buy the football club. Ever since then, the club has managed to become a household name, especially after Welcome to Wrexham released.

The Wrexham AFC club has come a long way thanks to efforts by co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. But the actor feels that his experience with the team has more to do with the people and fans in general. He appeared on a podcast episode of SmartLess co-host Jason Bateman once, to discuss life, career, and plans. During the conversation, Bateman wanted to know what Reynolds’ upcoming docuseries was about. The Deadpool actor then explained how it was not about just them, but rather the people that showed love to the game. “But it’s really about this community in this town,” he said in July 2021 episode of the podcast.

The actor felt that football is an internal and active part of the Welsh community. He feels that the community as well as the team feel emotions of sadness or happiness together. So helping such a community grow by making a team successful is a work of great pleasure. He gave an example of the 2019 Netflix documentary Sunderland till I Die.

But the Welcome to Wrexham docuseries was only the beginning of a new passion for the actor.

The field of sports is high on dopamine, both for the players and the fans. Reynolds not only purchased and got his team fame but also saw good changes as a result. Despite not being the toppers, the club has a massive fan club and will be facing the world famous Manchester United in a friendly match. Meanwhile, the actor is said to be trying to buy the ice hockey team of the Ottawa Senators in his home country.
