We all certainly enjoy Bridgerton season 1 and season 2 on Netflix.  Apart from all the lavish costumes and ranchy scenes, we loved how inclusive the show is. For instance, in its second season, the show had Indian-origin characters, bringing forth the South Asian culture. Just like us, some celebrities from the industry too praised the show for the representation. In a recent tweet, Priyanka Chopra praised the show for the “desi representation”.

The novel of Julia Quinn inspired Shonda Rhimes’s Regency-era drama, Bridgerton. The show follows the lavish, elite, and competitive marriage market in London in the early 1800s. The primary aim of all the young ladies and men is to get married to a rich and reputed family in London. In season 1 of Bridgerton, we witness the courtship of Daphne, the eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family, and the Duke.

In season 2, we explore the love story of Anthony Bridgerton, the eldest of the family, and Kate Sharma, daughter of a common man from India and step-daughter of Lady Mary. Since Anthony set his quest to find the perfect Viscountess, where love is not the priority, he starts to court the younger Sharma sister, Edwina. But verbal sparring and clashing personalities click a romantic spark between Anthony and Kate.

Shonda Rhimes had a clear aim when introducing Indian characters in the show: to make every one feel seen. Now, it looks like Priyanka Chopra feels seen and loves the show for it.

Priyanka Chopra proudly represents her culture every chance gets. Since she belongs to India, Shonda Rhimes‘s representation of Indian culture impressed her in Bridgerton season 2. The caption of her Tweet read, “I have to say, it’s so wonderful to see desi representation on mainstream TV. It was such an anomaly when I started. Love the show and the Sharma sisters”. Attached to the tweet was a picture of Kate Sharma aka Simone Ashley and Edwina Sharma aka Charithra Chandran.

She is a regular fan of Bridgerton, and just like us, binge-watched the entire season in one go.

No Indian, not ever Chopra can miss the intricate embroidery on the Victorian gowns. Moreover, title track of Karan Johar’s ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ also played during the Haldi ceremony, in Bridgerton season 2.

The cast and crew has done an amazing job of blending the Indian culture into a Regency-era British show. It may not have been prefect but it certainly is a start and we stan that.
