“It does not sound like I sound” – Henry Cavill Explains His Original Jersey Accent
Over the years, Henry Cavill has played several roles and characters in various films and series from various genres. Every role Cavill plays, for instance, The Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher, Sherlock Holmes in Enola Holmes, or Clark Kent in The Man of Steel, most of his roles are completely different and unrelated to each other.
Furthermore, each role demands something different from Cavill, be it his accent for the Geralt of Rivia or his hairstyle for Sherlock Holmes. However, that does not stop the British actor from perfectly portraying every character on-screen. But what is Cavill’s original accent? Is it British? Let us find out.

What is the original accent of Henry Cavill?
It is no surprise that acting is a demanding job, sometimes it requires an actor to go to extreme lengths to deliver a shot perfectly. In the past few years, we have seen various films and shows featuring Henry Cavill. While some roles played by Cavill have a bit of British touch in them, others show the actor speaking in an American accent. Even though Cavill is British, he grew up on the Island of Jersey.
Previously, the Enola Holmes actor appeared on CBS Mornings to talk about The Witcher season 2. During the interview, host Tony Dokoupil revealed how he wants his friends to admit to realize that Cavill has the original Jersey accent from Chanel Islands. In response, Cavill replied, “The original Jersey accent comes from a language which is a combination of French and English and it does not sound like I sound.”
Co-Host Gayle King asked Tony why he thinks Cavill has the original Jersey accent. Tony explained how New Jersey is named after the former governor of the Channel Islands. Interestingly, the Mission Impossible: Fallout actor was also born in the Channel Islands.

Elsewhere in the interview, Gayle asked Cavill why did he campaign for the role of the Geralt of Rivia since the very beginning. The Witcher star replied that he was a huge fan of the games. Since he has been acting for 21 years, he often thinks about turning video games he plays into movies or TV shows.

The Geralt of Rivia is not just a simple anti-hero, he’s a complex character. He has various layers and complexities to him and that is evident in the way he talks. To make the character sound a little different, Cavill had to adopt a unique accent that was different from the novels and video games.
