There is no one as excited about Halloween as Netflix. The OTT Mughal has a bunch of content exclusively designed to give you the creeps this spooky season. And on this list is the Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan masterpiece The Watcher. The name of the series is very similar to another popular Netflix video game-turned-alive drama, The Witcher, but do not be fooled because unless the ‘Watcher’ is a monster, it is not anything like it. In fact, The Watcher is based on a true story.
The trailer dropped by the streaming giant supplies us with a ‘Based on True Events’ disclaimer. As if the creepy neighbors, anonymous letters asking for your kids’ blood, and an uninvited ‘Watcher’ devoted to staring at your house were not already scary enough. Created by the makers of the American Horror Story fans have no doubt that the series will be no short of brilliant and will do justice to the horror of the 657 Boulevard house.
True story behind The Watcher on Netflix
Starring the talented Naomi Watts and Bobby Cannavale as the couple who move in with their kids into their dream house, the nine-episode-long series will follow the terrifying events that take place after they move into their new home.
The Watcher on Netflix is the true story of the Broaddus family. While looking for new houses when they found 657 Boulevard, which was a few blocks away from Maria Broaddus’ childhood home, and the couple wanted to look no more. But their dream house soon turned into a living nightmare when they started receiving anonymous letters in the mailbox. The letters were written by someone who called himself ‘The Watcher’. After the first not-so-welcoming, ‘welcome letter’, The Watcher turned the creep factor up by a notch.
Derek and Maria had three children, 5,8, and 10 years old then. So imagine the horror when The Wacther said “Do you need to fill the house with the young blood I requested?” He even threatened that once he knows their names he will call them. The true story that The Watcher in based on is a cold case. To this day, no one has figured out who was watching the Broaddus. Check it out on Netflix when it premieres on October 13th.
