Narcos may have caught everyone’s attention when it first came out. But since then, the creative minds behind the series and Narcos: Mexico decided to team up again. This time it is to give the world the story of a Colombian drug lord. Earlier this year, it was announced that the duo would put forth a TV drama series, Griselda, that is sure to captivate anyone who sees it in 2024. While the storyline may have been harrowing, it left the audience pondering the question: Is it a true story?

While viewers may only have that question truly answered when the series hits their screens, here is what we know about the thrilling upcoming series about the “Black Widow” so far.

How true is the story of Griselda?

After the announcement of the series from Netflix along with the show’s creators, Eric Newman and Andrés Baiz in 2021, everyone wanted to know one thing. Was the upcoming biographical series based on a true story? The answer to that is yes. The series will be based on the life of Griselda Blanco, who was a Colombian cartel woman based out of Miami in the late 1970s. She ruled a part of the cocaine drug trade and even earned the names, Cocaine Grandmother and Black Widow.

The showrunners will focus on the life she led instead of just her crimes. It is said that the real Griselda took on a life of crime after she was exposed to an extreme criminal lifestyle in her formative years. The series will essentially have to cover some of those instances but will be more focused on how she built herself a drug empire while raising her family until her eventual downfall in 1985. Apart from just having an intriguing storyline, the Narcos team also brought the story to life with the casting as well.

After wrapping up filming for their series, Netflix teased its fans with a teaser for Griselda mere days ago. While the story was amazing, it was the spot-on casting that truly breathed life into the series.

Since the announcement of the series 2 years ago, fans have been wondering how the story would be translated from real-life events. However, filming for the entire series wrapped up a month or two ago and is now in its production stage. So after sharing a poster of Sofia Vergara, Netflix dropped a teaser to give their audience a taste of what they could expect. Sticking true to her Columbian roots, the actress brought the character to life effortlessly.

The star is not only acting in the film but also an executive producer on the upcoming project, Griselda. While the trailer may be out, the series is not expected to air until January 25, 2024. although that may be a long wait for most, the trailer hints that the series will be worth the wait.
