Brazil is famous for its stunning beaches, rainforests, and diverse cities. It is the country of football with world-renowned footballers such as Pelé and Neymar born there. Along with these, it also has a beautiful monument of Jesus Christ, Christ the Redeemer Statue, which was once again struck by lightening. The entire world is shocked to see the viral pictures of the incident, as it gave chills to netizens, including Will Smith.

When the lightening struck, a photographer captured it and posted the pictures on his Instagram as well. The viral image seemed to add a godly glow to the statue, making it eerie to look at. Along with the media, the incident caught the attention of Will Smith, as well. On his Instagram profile, the Emancipation star shared pictures of the statue getting struck by the lightning in Rio de Janeiro. The actor also expressed his shock and wrote, “Okay… I get it… I’ma straighten up!”

Following Smith’s post, fans were quick to comment their perspective on the incident. Like the Men in Black actor, fans too “got it” that this was a sign from the above that Jesus Christ is angry at mankind’s actions. Meanwhile, other commentators moved past the religious connotations and focused on the beauty of the image.

Will Smith can relax, the statue was struck by lightening once before

The Christ the Redeemer statue is also known as Cristo Redentor in Portuguese. It is a symbol of Christianity. The statue is 30 meters tall and is one of the most significant attractions for tourists. Since its completion in 1931, the statue has become one of the most iconic landmarks in Brazil and internationally as well. While the lightening strike was shocking, it wasn’t the first time.

Previously, lightening struck the statue in 2008, damaging the right thumb. Later, in 2014, lightening struck again and this time it damaged the head of the statue. While the damages were severe, the local communities and Brazilian government have always taken measures to preserve the beauty of the monument.
