The entertainment industry takes a toll on every artist, especially female artists. Many of them opened up about the struggles of the beginning days of their careers. From picking roles they are offered to the ones they want, it differs a lot. Recently, Scarlett Johansson opened up about how she was groomed into being something that she never imagined for herself. She talked about the earlier days of her career that shaped her path.

The Oscar-nominee diva aspired to be an actress from a very early age. Her first film role was in the 1994 comedy film, North. The actress got attention for her roles in Manny & Lo (1996), The Horse Whisperer (1998), and Ghost World (2001). Things worked out for Johansson and she became one of the highest-paid actresses in 2018-2019. The 38-year-old actress opened up and said she constantly felt like being objectified for males’ desires when she had just begun her career. When she starred in films like Lost in Translation, Girl With the Pearl Earring, and Match Point, she was just 18, or 19 years. She said, “I was coming into my own womanhood and learning my desirability and sexuality.” At that period, the actress was being groomed into something like a bombshell-type actress.

Becoming someone like that concerned her, as she couldn’t get out of it. However, being like that limited her scope of getting different roles because she was established as a sex symbol in the industry. When she starred in Iron Man 2 as Black Widow, her initial character was written as underdeveloped and over-sexualized. However, she didn’t want her character to be like that. So, she talked it out with the director and the Marvel Studios head. She further added she was concerned that her hyper-sexualization made her think her career was over. While remembering those days, she revealed her struggling days. She thought people thought of her as someone who was 40 and older, which she didn’t want.
