The show includes multiple intense scenes, both physical and emotional. Unsurprisingly, such scenes take a heavy toll on the actors. In an interview with E! Red Carpet & Award Shows, protagonists of Netflix’s psychological thriller, Toni Collette and Bella Heathcote (playing Laura’s daughter Andy), talk about their struggles while shooting.
While talking about her experience of going to set and shooting, actress Bella Heathcote said that even though she is grateful for her job and loves acting, the flashback scenes were “harrowing.” Meanwhile, Toni called the story “amazing, full of twists and turns and everything is at stake all the time.”
When asked if the shoot was an escape from the real world, the two actresses shared how the shoot wasn’t a fun experience. “It wasn’t an escape, we were in it!” exclaimed Bella in answer to the question. Meanwhile, Toni felt that “every scene we filmed felt more intense that we anticipated.” Owing to the intensity of the characters and their situation, the actors felt exhausted by the end of the shoot. So much so that Bella’s favorite scenes to shoot were with Amari and Jacob before things went south in the series.
“It was a no-brainer,” says Bella on signing up for her role
While talking about why she agreed to the role. Bella said that she was drawn to the “realistic arc” that both the female characters had. She also shared how she couldn’t stop reading the script and later the book that inspired the show. To her, picking up the role was a “no-brainer.”
“I really gravitate towards stories of trauma, about people trying to escape,” said the Hereditary actress while being asked where she’ll like to live like her character. She further pointed out that there are some similarities between her characters in Pieces of Her and Hereditary as both try to protect their family and struggle with generational trauma.

The novel that inspired the series is a standalone written by Karin Slaughter. However, considering how Netflix likes producing multiple seasons of its show, given there is fan demand, we can remain hopeful. Meanwhile, the series is streaming on Netflix, and you watch or re-watch while waiting for a season 2 update.
