Kanye West is one of the most influential musicians in the industry. Keeping aside all his controversies, one cannot deny that Ye’s impact on music has been massive. Over the years, the ‘Heartless’ hitmaker has inspired tons of musicians of an entire generation and has given us some of the most memorable songs and albums. However, apart from incredible creativity, Ye has often mentioned his mother in a number of his songs. And recently, an old video of Ye singing to his mother Donda surfaced online. 

We are no strangers to the fact that Kanye West is a mama’s boy. Over the years, Ye has often spoken and even sung about his mother on plenty of songs and occasions. As we all know, not long ago, West even named his much-anticipated album after his mother, Donda. As surprising as it sounds, long before Ye released his debut album ‘College Dropout’, he even wrote a song dedicated to his mother, ‘Hey Mama’. And an old video of West singing ‘Hey Mama’ to his mom Donda took the internet by storm after it surfaced online. 

The video attracted several reactions from West’s fans as Twitter users commented on how they miss the old Kanye West. Furthermore, a user even tweeted how ‘Hey Mama’ was one of her favorite songs by the singer.   

Ye first made the song in 2005 as a tribute to his mother Donda. The song lyrics took the audience through Ye’s memories of his childhood. It might surprise you to know but Ye re-released a new version of the song following the death of his mother on the 10th of November 2007. Furthermore, unlike most of his other rap songs, ‘Hey Mama’ has a rather melodious and catchy tone. The song was also a part of Ye’s second studio album, ‘Late Registration’.

When Kanye West fans created a Hey Mama day to take a jibe at Taylor Swift

We are all aware of the controversial relationship Ye and Taylor Swift share. Over the years, the duo has gone back and forth against each other on various occasions. However, a few years ago, even Ye’s fans decided to get a one-up over Taylor Swift as they planned to create a Hey Mama day on the occasion of Taylor Swift’s album release.

Back in 2017, Taylor Swift announced the release of her album ‘Reputation’ on November 10. However, interestingly, the day also marked the tenth death anniversary of Donda. So in an attempt to get back at Swift, Ye’s fans decided to reclaim November 10 as Hey Mama day. The idea was first rooted on Reddit where a user urged Ye’s fans to stream the song ‘Hey Mama’ on November 10.
