“I don’t want to tell” – Julia Garner Has Her Fingers Crossed for the Madonna Biopic
Julia Garner saw her life change and her career move forward too quickly after she garnered massive success for her role in the crime drama Ozark. She played a rather unconventional strong female lead who was just a broken girl inside. Her role earned her several awards and accolades. Soon after showing off her acting chops in Ozark, she nabbed the role of Anna Delvey for Netflix’s Inventing Anna. The limited series from Shonda Rhimes was a tremendous hit, breaking records and bringing in plenty of eyeballs. She assumed the con artist’s accent and her body language to play the role convincingly. Her hard work on screen paid off, as following that Garner was chosen to play Madonna in the singer’s biopic. However, the 29-year-old’s big Hollywood project was scrapped before it even began. Yet, Garner remains hopeful.
Entertainment Tonight caught up with the actress at Vanity Fair’s Oscar Party on Sunday. At the event, she addressed the status of the Madonna biopic. Although she knew that the project was not moving forward at present at Universal Pictures, the actress is still hoping to make it to the sets someday. “I don’t want to tell too much. I want to keep things… yeah, fingers crossed,” Julia Garner told Denny Directo.

Last July, Madonna announced her biopic and also picked Julia Garner to play her role in the movie. They had long sessions together to prepare for the role. The ‘Material Girl’ singer was set to direct the movie, and Amy Pascal was to produce the flick. However, in January, the music icon suddenly announced a world tour. With Madonna shifting her focus to the international tour, the biopic was called off.
Sydney Sweeney lost the role to Julia Garner
Interestingly, not just Garner but Sydney Sweeney also tried out for the role. She auditioned for the role along with her Euphoria co-star and The Wonder actress, Florence Pugh. But Garner beat them all to bag the biggest role of her lifetime. Nevertheless, it turned out pretty well for the Euphoria actress as she bagged Madame Web and Barbarella.
The biopic was to follow Madonna from her younger years to when she attained superstardom. Although it is scrapped now, she still wants her fans to know her story someday. So Garner’s wish might just come true. What do you think?
